The Proposed Project

Government of Maharashtra has authorized CIDCO on 30th September 2010 as Implementing Agency under Indian Tramway Act 1886 to implement the Metro Rail Project. CIDCO has envisaged metro rail corridors in the city to improve connectivity with Mumbai's transportation system. CIDCO entrusted Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), as consultant to conduct feasibility study.
The consultants in their report proposed six metro corridors in Navi Mumbai. Belapur–Khandeshwar–Navi Mumbai International Airport corridor is planned to be developed in 3 phases i.e. 1) Belapur to Pendhar, 2) MIDC to Khandeshwar and 3) Interlink between Pendhar & MIDC. Later it was decided to extend the Metro to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in 4th Phase.
In the first phase, CIDCO has taken up the development of Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Corridor-I, Line No.1 (Belapur to Pendhar) spanning upto 11.10 Kms. with 11 Stations and 1 Depot costing Rs. 3063.63 Crores. CIDCO will fund Corridor-I, Line No.1 through surplus internal accruals. The Union Urban Development Ministry on 9th January 2015 notified the Alignment for Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project, Corridor-I, Line No.1 under Section-32 of the Metro Railways (Construction of works) Act 1978 for implementation of the project under Central Metro Acts.
The ground breaking ceremony of Line 1 was performed on 1st May, 2011 and the construction work is in progress. Navi Mumbai Metro Rail Project- Belapur to NMIA is being developed in phases, as below:
