Railway Network

If anything can be called the lifeline of Navi Mumbai, it's the city's suburban railway network. It's a unique rail project involving CIDCO and Indian Railways, with CIDCO and Railways sharing the expenditure on a ratio of 67:33. The rail network has been planned in such a way that all stations have walkable access from residential areas. Convenient interchange facility has been provided from one corridor to another. Every station provides double discharge platforms. Covering a length of 200 km and occupying 900 hectares of land, the network is planned with 6 separate corridors and 30 stations.

All the stations on the Vashi-Panvel and Vashi-Thane are distinctly designed making them architectural marvels. Every station has forecourt area with multi-modal transit facility. The floor-space above the railway line has been commercially utilised. The rail corridors in Navi Mumbai are:

  1. Mankhurd-Belapur-Panvel (complete)

  2. Thane-Turbhe-Nerul / Vashi (complete)

  3. Belapur / Nerul-Uran (partly complete)

  4. Panvel-Uran (planned)
