Sewage & Drainage

Navi Mumbai is a pioneer in MMR that treats Sewage before discharging it into the creek. CIDCO has provided 1-2 Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) in each node. These are state-of-the-art C-Tech/SBR Sewage treatment plants which run on gravity and pumping mechanism. Standards of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board are met before the treated effluent is discharged. This treated effluent is used for landscaping and gardening. The extensive water requirement for the mega projects of Central Park and International Golf Course is also being met by the treated effluent of nearby STP in Kharghar

Storm-water System

A unique storm water management system has been evolved with the help of Holding Ponds and Detentions Ponds. The planners and engineers created these artificial water bodies in almost every node to hold storm water. This led to the creation of a peculiar urban phenomenon specific to Konkan region. CIDCO has created 40 water bodies known as detention ponds (38) and holding ponds (02).The ponds, encircled with trees, also serve as a major part of storm water management and prevent water logging in low-lying areas during monsoon. The ponds encompass a total area of about 619.57 Ha.
This showed positive results after over three decades – in the 2005 cloudburst, even when and 720-km coastline of Konkan, including Mumbai witnessed the worst-ever floods, only Navi Mumbai was least affected.
