What is SEZ
The proposed Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone (NMSEZ) is spread over an area of 2,140 hectares across 3 nodes of Navi Mumbai i.e. Dronagiri (1,390 Ha), Ulwe (400 Ha) and Kalamboli (350 Ha). The project is being implemented through public-private participation. This project is expected to generate direct employment for more than 5 lakh people. CIDCO expects to attract an investment of about 25,000 crores.
CIDCO and strategic investors have formed a special purpose company M/s NMSEZ Private Limited, registered under Companies Act, 1956, to accelerate progress. The land use of the zone has been changed and it is now recognized as Integrated Industrial Area.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Mumbai Port provide the necessary linkages to international markets. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, is at a distance of 60-90 min. approx. Besides, the area has access to both Konkan Railway and the Western Railway. Proposed water transport linking South Mumbai to NMSEZ, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), and upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to further boost accessibility to the area.
